Innovation, quality and variability.
Meet Thinwood’s first proprietary material, an exclusive wooden composite that’s lightweight, flexible, available in 27 basic colours and custom patterns, so you can leave the look of your glasses to your imagination.
OWN DEVELOPED MATERIALS
The Thinwood frame material is the origin of the Eyewear Tailroing story. It started our development process and led us on a relatively long, but very instructive journey. Arnold Kis spent four years developing and perfecting the Thinwood raw material and manufacturing mechanism. His starting point was that he loved wood, but he wanted to create a thin material with the properties of flexible titanium alloys. This is how the Thinwood frame material was born, which consists of a special blend of resin and fiberglass and a decorative veneer.
LIGHT AND FLEXIBLE
The production of the raw material is a completely manual process involving pressing, heat treatment and moulding, and takes a total of five working days to turn the wood into a sheet suitable for spectacle cutting. This type of use of materials reflects the needs of the modern age, as similar materials are used in the manufacture of high-tech sports equipment, cars and spacecraft. To this day, the biggest car manufacturers use this complex technology for small, limited-volume models, where prestige is the priority, not profitability. The resulting material has the appearance of wood and the properties closest to titanium: light, flexible and strong.
CUSTOM PATTERNS
The Thinwood material stands out for its unique patterns and colours. You can choose from our pattern catalogue, bring your own colour combination, graphics or request a completely unique pattern design. The possibilities are truly endless, so the look of your glasses will only reflect the elegance of your imagination.
“During the experimentation phase, I often thought how great it would feel if people were looking for my product in different opticians. It was part of the process to go step by step, as this was the best way for me to get to know and explore the properties and limits of the product I was producing. Eventually I managed to create the first marketable piece,” says Arnold.
This process answers two common questions:
- Why are my glasses not ready the next day?
- How will my glasses be personalised?
The thing about Thinwood is that it can be used to make perfectly individual frames. It is printable, so you can print any colour and pattern on its surface, or cut it to any shape. As part of the selection process, we create templates and adapt them to the face to the millimetre according to your specific needs. This extremely lightweight, thin and resistant frame material ensures almost undetectable wear. Innovative materials and sustainable manufacturing combine to make every Thinwood frame the epitome of creative elegance and outstanding quality. Once you’ve experienced what it’s like to wear a Thinwood frame, you’ll always want another one, and thanks to the endless possibilities, there’s no stopping you at Eyewear Tailroing. Designing Thinwood frames is a truly personalised experience that guarantees the perfect combination of style and comfort.
